Start with a question
Suppose your midfield was hard to find against the first press. Before changing formation, review several moments. Did the supporting player move early enough? Was the receiving angle open? Did the ball carrier have a second option? These are working questions, not conclusions from a real match.
Choose one coaching priority
For this example, the priority is to create options on different lines. Keep that objective short enough for players to remember. Individual reminders can address scanning, body orientation, and timing.
Design the practice
Use a 6v4 positional possession exercise in a 30 by 25 metre area. Divide the area into three zones. Encourage the six attackers to find a route into the next zone while four defenders press. Rotate roles and adjust the space to suit the group.
Reflect on the decision
Look beyond a successful pass. Did the player scan, recognize the pressure, and choose an appropriate option? Record the moments that help you assess the objective. This is an illustrative coaching idea to adapt, not a prescription for every squad.
